Cassady/Kerouac letter to be auctioned ....

Post by dheadley » Thu May 19, 2016 7:24 pm

Finally....

"After authenticating it, Jean Spinosa, the woman in possession of the artifact, offered it up for auction in late 2014, announcing it at a media event at the Beat Museum in North Beach. But Cassady’s three children, who thought the manuscript had been lost forever, filed suit to halt the sale on grounds that it was their property. The estate of Kerouac also claimed ownership of the document."

I went to L.A. on the 6th to see the letter at Christies. it was imcredible. the couple pages of it I read we're perfect beat prose and poetry. they even had the envelope marked A. Ginsberg to Neal Cassady. it was amazing to see what was originally a personal letter to kerouac speaking of Neals attempt to get kerouac a job and his "enormous cock beating against her soft belly" haha

Seems it didn't make the reserve price of just under $400,000. By rights it should go to the Cassady family. Neal wrote it. And a little cash to the family that saved it. No? At least it seems the wrangling over it has settled between the Cassady family, the Sampas family and the Spinosa family. The only ones who will profit there would be the legal teams.
