Apomorphine.

What's interesting in Rub Out The Words is how much WSB totally rhapsodized over its drug-habit-curer properties. But he was a junkie basically all his life, and you would have thought he would have backtracked somewhat from his prosetlyzing and preaching about its regenerative effects when confonted with the cold stark reality of his own continued addiction. Shrug. It's used to treat Parkinson's now and its early use to 'cure' homosexuality is doubly ironic in WSB's case; cured hot beef and needle injections!

The jury still seems to be out on the efficacy of apomorphine for treating opiate addiction and a whole host of other things.

Burroughs' attitude to his heroin addiction was never entirely consistent or clear. On the one hand he celebrates the rebellion of the junky lifestyle in some passages, in other passages he complains about wasting his life away in a pile of filth staring at his own shoe for hours and sings the praises of the apomorphine cure.

From what i can make out this is a recent site. I've not found anything that gives such a coherent and thorough account of apo and even fewer about Dr John Yerbury Dent, whose life and work is at risk of being lost completely.

His daughter, Ann Langford Dent, an accomplished and fascinating artist, died recently. Reading her obituary, it would seem Dr Dent's charismatic approach to medicine extended to his family life as well.

not just his writings about addiction but everything - in 'Nova Express' apomorphine seems to be a cure-all magic formula for the resistance etc.
