a spare copy of The Job?

Does anyone have a spare copy of The Job, and can send it? I can't get any copies of it here in Brazil under at least 300 bucks.

I'll pay for everything, of course.

Re: Questions about The Ticket that Exploded

I've always thought that referred to the gods punishing men who begged for violence against their enemies. It's a very mysterious book. I read it right after reading Junky and the experience changed drastically from one to another. It was fascinating how William merged time and combined two or three...

Re: Dr. Benway

I don't think he had much of an agenda when he started writing. Junky and Queer were mainly written to shock. Though of course his literary talents elevated them above pulp fiction. He wasn't a typical queer for sure. He wasn't typical anything. A total misfit. What became Naked Lunch was a way to ...

Re: Dr. Benway

“A room full of fags gives me the horrors. They jerk around like puppets on invisible strings, galvanized into hideous activity that is the negation of everything living and spontaneous. The live human being has moved out of these bodies long ago. But something moved in when the original tenant mov...

Re: Dr. Benway

He seems to relish the details in the passage quoted above. The hanging boys he loved so much were definitely homo-erotic fantasy but perhaps he can be seen as a pioneer of gay rights. There's a tendency nowadays to see everything in terms of gender politics. Burroughs was certainly queer, he even ...

Re: Dr. Benway

I disagree. I think Burroughs is talking about the type of hate crime against homossexuals that he witnessed at the time. A metaphor for the sadism of this cruelty, hence them being "Children".

Re: B/W footage of Burroughs in the doc

He's in a small dark apartment, looking at what seems to be burned papers on a table. There's a close up on his face as he opens his eyes. Then there is a shot of him sitting and shooting up.

He looks very young, fascinating.

B/W footage of Burroughs in the doc

Greetings, Does anyone know the origin and context of the footage that appears in the "Opium" sequence of Burroughs the Movie? When he quotes the line of Naked Lunch, there's this footage of him shooting H or apomorphine in a small apartment. Was this from the Guerrilla Conditions/Naked Lunch movie ...

Re: Steve Buscemi WSB100 Event Sept 13th

Ben Foster did a decent job as a young Burroughs in Kill Your Darlings (even though the film itself didn't do much for me), he'd be a good choice for Lee in Junky/Queer. If the film were made 10 years ago as Buscemi first planned, Crispin Glover would have been great for the role too, but Glover is...

Re: Steve Buscemi WSB100 Event Sept 13th

It's a shame that nothing ever came of Buscemi's plan to produce and direct a film adaptation of Junky and Queer . Yet another interesting film project trapped in development hell, apparently. I just hope Steve doesn't give up when he becomes too old to star in it himself. And i sure hope he produc...

If I lived nearby I wouldn't miss it. What did you think about the Rub Out the Word album? He did a great job there. Makes you wonder about how awesome would he be playing Bill.

Bill as a writing influence

Good evening from Brazil,

I'm currently spending my days and effort into something still unknown to me. Fingers typing with Bill as part of the initial influence. Have you guys written anything? If so, how Burroughs influenced it?

The Initial Burroughs Fascination

Once William was named Old Bull Lee. Right around the book i became aware of Burroughs. After that: Junky, a heavy dosage of cut-ups under the influence, Cities of the Red Night, Yagé and Naked Lunch. All of this in one continuous obsession. Fueling my writing, philosophy and overall approach to eve...

Re: Interpretations of this excerpt from Cities of the Red Night

I think your first interpretation is the same as mine. Something about how final life really is in spite of trying to gain immortality through meaningful or meaningless. Instead of asking for immortality one should live their life without asking for anything.
